NINA JUNIPER
Through tangible engagement, and working directly with the materiality of the site at 112 Murray St, these screen-printed works are made through a number of constructive and re-constructive processes. Small-scale formwork has been used to cast concrete blocks which form the foundation and substrate for these screen-prints. The possibility of creating multiples using a singular mould for a like object in modern construction is mirrored in the multiplicity of the ‘print’ medium, forming a dialogue between photographic images of the building’s architecture and the support materials on which the images are printed.
RILEY SALMON LOMAS
Intaglio Etchings and rust transfers created using found steel plates from the Light Works space - each mark evidencing unknown movements through time and space.
Plate one: found in crumbling structure at the rear of the Light Works building, where it was stored until removed by the artist on May 10 2023. The plate was removed from the space and prepared for documentation on July 9 2023. It was then etched and printed from this original found state.
Plate two: found as above, however removed from storage and used temporarily to cover a damaged storm drain June 18 2022. The plate was removed from the space and prepared for documentation on July 9 2023. One side was then etched and printed from this original found state while the other side underwent a rust transfer process.
EMMA JOLLEY
Feelings of disconnect, absence and abandonment are reflected upon in this body of work that considers Jolley’s relationship with her grandfather during her formative years.
Grandpa Lloyd was the loving and caring patriarch who was the pinnacle of knowledge and wisdom on any topic for the family. For days or weeks at a time he would go AWOL with no explanation, at odds with the person that Jolley knew and loved so well. This culminated in an absence of 8 years, his attempt to ascend to the churches highest echelon, during which time his health deteriorated beyond repair.
LIGHTWORKS
LIGHT WORKS is a self organising site/space/body intervening the former Hubbard Dianetics Centre on the east end of (Murray St) Boorloo (Perth). Interested in ‘making distance’ for intentional / unintentional practice through exhibiting, hosting, housing, teaching, learning, and critical discourse in a range of contexts.
